When Kanye West released his new track last Friday the internet and indeed soundcloud went into meltdown, and after Soundcloud finally managed to throw enough coal in the fire to get things moving again fans and media a like greeted "Real Friends" with rapturous applause.
But it wasn't just the fans that were celebrating it's release, 18-year-old Kansas City, Missouri rapper and producer Rory Fresco dropped a song called “Lowkey” just a few days before Kanye, and for whatever reason, SoundCloud’s algorithm picked this song to be the next track played after Kanye’s “Real Friends” finished. As a result, the song went from 5,000 plays to over 350,000 since Friday.
“I have no idea how this happened,” Fresco wrote via email. “It was random. Had no idea it would grow to this. I got girls from middle school hitting me up lmao. I’m a huge fan of Kanye and also Cudi… I’m inspired. I just wanna show the world more of my creations from my bedroom in the basement.”
The song is now second in line after Kanye’s track, with a TDE mix taking over the directly next spot, but this big placement has already made an impact—”Lowkey” currently has 158,000 plays, and the response to his song from new fans all over the world has been overwhelmingly positive.
Rory Fresco debut album, Hollywood Rebel will be out later this year. check out more from him on his sound cloud SoundCloud. Here's “Lowkey” below.
